Originally from Franche-Comté and graduating from Penninghen-Paris in 1994, I started working in the graphics and design department of watch manufacturers. Very quickly fascinated by the symbolism of this mechanism, I have since maintained a unique dialogue with its components: dials, hands, crowns, cases, wheels, tourbillons, springs, jewels, plates, pinions... which, extracted from their original context, become, with space and time, the raw materials of my sculptures, in a state of constant renewal. Formally, I explore non-mechanical movement, in its random dimension, with subtle vibrations.
Each of my compositions is structured within the constraint of a linear and regular grid of 7, 12, 24, 52, 60 or 365... threads, representing the cycles of time, universal. But in these weaves, I weave completely different webs, made of internal multiplicity, as Bergson put it. Time is neither quantifiable nor measurable, but drifts towards other perspectives beyond all control, enjoying chance and the unexpected: dyschronous hours challenge their new space, the infinite flow of seconds gives in to the pleasure of the unexpected, certain moments become luminous, recreating the marvellous phenomenon of Thaumaston celebrated by Aristotle, also called Poetics of surprise by the Surrealists.
My sculptures also explore space, not as a void but as a breath, a place of random vibration between beings of varying intensity, a space that connects and gives meaning - my personal approach to the Japanese concept of Ma. They thus echo Tinguely's invitation:
‘Forget hours, seconds and minutes. BE IN TIME - STATIC, STATICS - WITH MOVEMENT [...] Be free, live!’
